Why do you need FM and AM radios, when do you need them, which radios receivers can you buy for little or no money?

Today I’m going to show you a number of EDC radios that are ideal Everyday Carry items for receiving vital news of important events during a power cut, weather event in an emergency where ever you are 247, whether you are a prepper or not.

The carrying of a radio of these types have also been sanctioned by governments and the Red Cross for preparations in times of crisis too. Don’t rely on the internet or a smart phone in a crisis such as a weather event or a power outage.

Here is what I carry or keep as backup. Several Sony Walkmans spread across my EDC kit.

• Apple iPod 6th Generation (Not used so much these days)
• RTL-SDR Software Defined Radio USB dongle and SDR Sharp software.

If I am working overseas or need to listen to overseas broadcasts from the UK I will use a shortwave radio.

• FM and AM are proven technologies and analogue is very resilient and durable. Digital devices can come obsolete in a few years.

So, when all else fails there are many advantages to carrying an EDC radio in any situation and use it daily.

Have a look online for some legacy devices. You will find some in superb condition, almost new packed full of features. Some will be refurbished and will increase in value and become collectable.
